Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- celery seed
- medium onions, sliced - 6 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- cucumbers, sliced - 4 qt
- green peppers, diced - 2 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
You will also need jars (size of your choice), lids and rings.Combine cucumbers, onions, peppers and salt. Cover with ice water, let stand 3 hours. Mix other ingredients and bring to boil; pour over pickles. Place in jars. Place jars in canner of water. Bring to boil, until jars become heated. Take out, cool. Check lids to see if they sealed. If not, repeat canner hot bath.
