Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sliced medium cucumbers - 4 qt
- medium white onions, sliced optional - 6 item
- green sweet peppers, chopped optional - 2 item
- cloves garlic - 3 item
- coarse medium salt - 1/3 c
- sugar - 5 c
- turmeric
- celery seed
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- cider vinegar - 3 c
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Do not pare cucumbers! Slice thin. Add onions, peppers and whole garlic cloves. Add salt and cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to a boil. Seal in hot, sterilized jars. Makes 8 pints.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
