Ingredients/Components
- butter - 1/2 c
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sugar - 2 c
- eggs - 4 item
- flour
- soda - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- cocoa - 4 Tbsp
- buttermilk, divided - 1 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- red food coloring - 4 Tbsp
- Grease and flour 3 9-inch cake pans
- box confectioners sugar - 1 oz
- soft margarine - 1 c
- whipping cream - 4 Tbsp
How to make red velvet cake:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour 3 (9-inch) cake pans. Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Combine flour, soda, salt and cocoa and gradually add to butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Add vanilla and food coloring. Blend well. Pour into pans and bake 25 to 30 minutes.Red Velvet Frosting:1/2 c. shredded coconut red food coloring1 (16 oz.) box confectioners sugar1 c. soft margarine1 tsp. vanilla4 Tbsp. whipping cream Blend confectioners sugar, margarine, vanilla and cream with mixer until smooth and fluffy.
