  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 2 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • nuts, chopped - 1 c
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • box powdered sugar - 1 item
  • Wesson oil - 1 c
  • stick butter or margarine - 1 item
  • Add eggs and beat well

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream the sugar and oil. Add eggs and beat well. Sift flour, salt and cocoa together; alternately add to creamed mixture with buttermilk. Add vanilla and coloring, then fold in soda. Bake in two 9-inch pans at 350° for about 25 to 30 minutes.Frosting for Red Velvet Cake:1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese1 stick butter or margarine1 tsp. vanilla1 box powdered sugar1 c. nuts, chopped Mix together at room temperature and spread over cake when cooled.
