Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 4 c
- vinegar - 4 c
- chopped onions - 2 c
- celery seed - 1 tsp
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- medium cucumbers, sliced - 4 qt
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Wash and slice cucumbers; put in 1/2 cup salt (either canning salt or plain salt, not iodized) and water to cover cucumbers. Let stand 3 hours. Combine all remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Drain cucumbers from salt mixture and place in vinegar solution. Bring to a boil again. Put in jars.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
