Chow-chow relish
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 6 c
- water - 2 c
- vinegar - 4 c
- chopped onions - 4 c
- celery seed - 1 Tbsp
- chopped cabbage - 4 c
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers - 12 item
- turmeric
- red peppers - 6 item
- green tomatoes - 10 item
- plain salt - 1/2 c
How to make chow-chow relish:
Chop vegetables with coarse blade. Sprinkle vegetables with 1/2 cup salt. Let stand overnight. Rinse off and drain well. Combine main ingredients. Pour over vegetable mixture, heat to a boil and simmer three minutes. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Yield: 8 pints.*If you like it hot, add 3 or 4 pods of red pepper.
