Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- salt - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 1 qt
- celery seed - 2 Tbsp
- large cucumbers - 25 item
- onions, sliced - 12 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- ginger root - 2 Tbsp
- a little water - 1 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Place cucumbers in cold water until crisp, then wipe dry and slice. Add sliced onions and salt. Let stand 1 hour. Do not drain. Add vinegar and a little water, sugar, mustard seed, ginger root and celery seed. Boil all together 5 minutes. While hot, fill cans and seal.These same ingredients are delicious to pickle banana peppers. Just cut up peppers, pour ingredients over and seal.
