Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- water - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 1 qt
- celery seed - 2 Tbsp
- large cucumbers - 25 item
- onions, sliced - 12 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- ginger root - 2 Tbsp
- salt for double recipe - 1/2 c
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Place cucumbers in cold water until crisp, then wipe dry and slice. Add sliced onions and salt. Let stand 1 hour. Do not drain. Add 1 quart vinegar and a little water (1/2 cup), 2 1/2 cups sugar, 2 tablespoons mustard seed, 2 tablespoons ginger root, 2 tablespoons celery seed. Boil all together for 5 minutes.
