Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- celery seed - 1 tsp
- white vinegar - 5 c
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- large white onions - 8 item
- to 30 medium cucumbers - 25 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers and onions thin, pour salt over them and let stand 3 hours. Drain off all the liquid. Mix sugar, vinegar, mustard seed, turmeric and celery seed. Bring to a boil. Add cucumbers and onions. Heat to a boiling point but do not boil. Pack in hot jars and seal.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
