Ingredients/Components
- salt
- water - 2 qt
- lemon juice - 1 item
- pepper - 1 item
- chili powder - 2 tsp
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- red pepper - 1 item
- can tomatoes, mashed - 1 oz
- soup mix - 2 c
- ham hocks or ham - 1 item
How to make bean soup:
Wash soup mix thoroughly. Drain; place in large kettle. Cover with water. Add salt; soak overnight. Drain. Add water and ham hocks or chopped ham. Bring to boil; simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add onion, tomatoes, lemon, red pepper and chili powder. Salt and pepper to taste. Simmer 1 hour or longer. Serve with cornbread.Recipe categories: For large groups, Soups & stews, Beans.
