Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- cinnamon
- water
- butter or margarine, melted - 3/4 lb
- lemon juice - 1 tsp
- fillo dough grocery freezer section - 1 lb
- walnuts, chopped small
- rosewater flavor - 1 Tbsp
How to make baklava:
Filling:1 lb. walnuts, chopped small1 c. sugar1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon1 Tbsp. rosewater flavor Syrup:1 c. water2 c. sugar1 tsp. lemon juice1 Tbsp. rosewater flavor Grease tray (14 x 18-inch) with melted butter. Lay fillo dough, one sheet at a time. Butter each sheet until half of dough is used. If dough breaks, patch and butter it.Filling: Mix walnuts, sugar, cinnamon and flavoring together. Evenly distribute across dough. Add remaining half of fillo dough, buttering each sheet carefully. Take sharp knife; cut into squares or diamond shape pieces. Bake for 30 minutes at 350°, until brown and crisp.
Syrup: Boil ingredients until it is light syrup. Pour over hot, baked Baklava; set aside to cool. Does not need refrigeration.
