  • milk
  • flour - 4 Tbsp
  • butter
  • chopped onion - 1 c
  • chopped celery - 1 c
  • chopped green onions
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded - 1/2 lb
  • salt and cayenne pepper to taste - 1 item
  • chopped bell pepper - 1 c
  • large head cabbage - 1 item
  • seasoned Italian bread crumbs - 1/4 c

How to make baked cajun cabbage:

Cheese Sauce:1/2 c. butter4 Tbsp. flour1 c. chopped onion1 c. chopped celery1 c. chopped bell pepper1 1/2 c. milk salt and cayenne pepper to taste1/2 lb. Cheddar cheese, shredded Topping:1 c. chopped green onions1/4 c. seasoned Italian bread crumbs Cut cabbage into bite size sections and remove heart. Boil about 10 minutes; drain and set aside.

In separate saucepan, combine butter and flour, blending well over medium heat. Add onion, celery, bell pepper, salt and cayenne pepper. Saute for 10 minutes. Add milk, blending well, over low heat until creamy. Add cheese; stir until smooth. Place cabbage in 2-quart casserole dish. Top with seasoned Cheese Sauce.

Sprinkle with green onions and bread crumbs. Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
