Ingredients/Components

  • milk
  • flour - 4 Tbsp
  • butter
  • chopped onion - 1 c
  • chopped celery - 1 c
  • chopped green onion
  • salt and cayenne pepper to taste - 1 item
  • chopped bell pepper - 1 c
  • Cheddar cheese - 1/2 lb
  • large head cabbage - 1 item
  • seasoned Italian bread crumbs - 1/4 c

How to make baked cajun cabbage:

Topping:1 c. chopped green onion1/4 c. seasoned Italian bread crumbs Cheese Sauce:1/2 c. butter4 Tbsp. flour1 1/2 c. milk salt and cayenne pepper to taste1/2 lb. Cheddar cheese Remove outer leaves of cabbage. Cut into bite size sections removing heart. Cook, boil uncovered 10 minutes until tender crisp. Drain, set aside. In separate saucepan, combine butter and flour blending well over medium heat. Add onions, celery, pepper and salt. Saute 10 minutes. Add milk, blending well over low heat, until creamy. Add cheese. Stir well until smooth. Place cabbage in 2 quart casserole. Top with seasoned cheese sauce. Sprinkle with green onions and bread crumbs. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Yields 6 servings.
