Ingredients/Components
- eggs - 3 item
- water - 1/4 c
- ground cloves - 1/4 tsp
- applesauce
- ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
- ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- ground allspice - 1/2 tsp
- SuperMoist yellow, butter pecan or spice cake mix - 1 pkg
- Browned Butter Frosting or Raisin-Rum Frosting follows - 1 item
How to make applesauce cake:
Heat oven to 350°. Grease and flour oblong pan, 13 x 9 x 2-inches. Beat all ingredients except frosting in large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, until moistened. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl frequently, 2 minutes. Pour batter into pan. Bake until cake springs back when touched lightly in center, 40 to 45 minutes. Cool; frost with Browned Butter Frosting.Browned Butter Frosting: Prepare Betty Crocker white frosting mix as directed on package, except heat butter in 1-quart saucepan over medium heat until light brown.
Raisin-Rum Frosting: Prepare Betty Crocker creamy white frosting mix as directed on package, except heat butter in 1-quart saucepan over medium heat until light brown. Stir in 1/3 cup chopped raisins, 1/3 cup chopped nuts and 2 tablespoons rum or 1/2 teaspoon rum flavoring.
