Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda
- large egg - 1 item
- unsifted all-purpose flour - 3 c
- butter, melted - 1/2 c
- chopped, unpeeled apples - 2 c
- ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
- ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- ground allspice - 1/4 tsp
- chopped almonds - 1/2 c
How to make apple cake:
Heat oven to 325°. Grease a 10-inch tube pan. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. Stir in buttermilk, butter and egg just until combined. Fold in apples and almonds. Spoon into greased pan. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until center springs back when lightly pressed with fingertip. Cool cake in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes. Cool.
