Angel biscuits
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/3 c
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- flour - 5 c
- buttermilk - 2 c
- baking powder - 1 Tbsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- dry yeast - 2 pkg
- warm water 110~ to 115~, let stand 5 minutes - 1/4 c
- shortening, butter or margarine, melted - 1 c
How to make angel biscuits:
In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Cut shortening with pastry blender until resembles coarse meal. Stir in yeast and buttermilk and mix well. Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead lightly 3 to 4 times.Note: Roll out all of dough or refrigerate part of dough in plastic bag and use later.
Roll out 1/2-inch thickness with 2 1/2-inch cutter. Place on greased baking sheet and let rise 1 1/2 to 3 hours. Pour melted butter over before baking. Bake at 450° for 8 to 10 minutes.
