Ingredients/Components
- flour - 5 c
- sugar - 1/4 c
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- vegetable shortening - 1 c
- dry yeast - 1 pkg
- warm water - 1/4 c
- buttermilk - 2 c
How to make angel biscuits:
Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in warm water; mix with buttermilk (room temperature). Add mixture to dry ingredients and mix well. Roll out 1/4-inch thick. Cut with round biscuit cutter or juice glass. Dip in melted butter or margarine and let rise 1 hour. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 400° for about 15 minutes or until done. Makes 2 to 3 dozen.This dough may be refrigerated up to 10 days. It can also be rolled out, cut, dipped in butter, covered with plastic, wrapped and refrigerated for 2 days. Let rise 1 hour before baking.
