Ingredients/Components
- egg whites - 4 item
- sugar
- plus 2 Tbsp - 2 c
- baking powder
- salt - 1 tsp
- shortening Crisco - 1/2 c
- milk - 1 c
- Grease and flour two 9-inch layer pans
- cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
- water - 3 Tbsp
- vanilla - 1 tsp
How to make white cake:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour two 9-inch layer pans. Beat egg whites until frothy. Add 1/2 cup sugar and beat until stiff and glossy. Set aside.Combine in a large mixing bowl, flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, salt and shortening. Add milk. Blend on low speed for 30 seconds, then beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Carefully fold in egg whites.
Pour into pans. Bake 35 to 40 minutes. Frost with 7 Minute Frosting.7 Minute Frosting:2 egg whites1 1/2 c. sugar1/4 tsp. cream of tartar3 Tbsp. water1 tsp. vanilla Place over hot water, egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar and 3 tablespoons water. Beat 5 to 7 minutes or until soft peaks form. Add vanilla.
