  • sugar
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • water - 1/3 c
  • baking powder
  • egg whites - 4 item
  • Crisco - 2/3 c
  • margarine
  • cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
  • cake flour - 3 c
  • peppermint extract - 1/2 tsp
  • Peppermint Filling - 1 item
  • crushed peppermint candy 5 oz - 3/4 c
  • divided Fluffy Frosting - 1 item

How to make peppermint candy cake:

Peppermint Filling:1/3 c. margarine1 c. sugar1/3 c. milk1/2 tsp. peppermint extract Fluffy Frosting:1 c. sugar1/3 c. water1/4 tsp. cream of tartar2 egg whites1 tsp. vanilla Cream the shortening. Add sugar, beating well at medium speed. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add milk. Beat egg whites until stiff and add to rest of ingredients. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 8-inch round cake pans. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Cool in pans. While warm, place on plate and spread with Peppermint Filling. Repeat with rest of the layers. Frost top and sides with Fluffy Frosting. Sprinkle top and sides with peppermint candy.

Peppermint Filling: Melt margarine in pan. Add rest of ingredients and bring to a boil. Stir constantly. Boil 1 minute. Put in between cake layers.

Fluffy Frosting for Peppermint Candy Cake: Combine first 3 ingredients in a pan. Cook over medium heat until clear; do not stir. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Add cooked mixture. Add vanilla; beat until stiff peaks form and frosting is thick enough to spread on cake.
