  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 4 item
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • cornstarch - 3 Tbsp
  • vanilla flavoring - 1 tsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • baking powder
  • egg whites - 3 item
  • sifted flour - 3 c
  • Crisco - 1 c
  • cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
  • butter flavoring - 1 tsp
  • lemon juice - 1/4 c
  • orange juice - 3/4 c
  • grated orange - 1 Tbsp
  • yolks, beaten - 3 item
  • Add flavorings

How to make ambrosia cake:

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add flavorings. Beat 2 minutes on high speed. Sift flour, salt and baking powder; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Beat 1 minute longer.

Pour batter into 3 greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool. Spread filling between layers. Spread top and sides with frosting. Sprinkle coconut.Orange Filling:1 c. sugar1/4 tsp. salt1/4 c. lemon juice3 yolks, beaten3 Tbsp. cornstarch3/4 c. orange juice1/2 c. water1 Tbsp. grated orange1 1/2 c. sugar1/2 c. water1/2 tsp. vanilla1/2 tsp. cream of tartar3 egg whites Combine sugar, water and cream of tartar in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is clear. Cook, without stirring, until candy thermometer reaches 240°.

Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Continue to beat egg whites while slowly adding syrup mixture. Add vanilla.
