Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • milk - 2/3 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • large egg - 1 item
  • all-purpose flour - 4 c
  • raisins - 1 c
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp

How to make welsh cakes:

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon. Add shortening and margarine, mix until like coarse meal. Add raisins. Beat eggs with milk, add to flour mixture to make a dough. Roll at 1/4-inch thick on floured board and cut with glass. Makes about 30 cakes. Cook at 350° on electric grill or on top of stove in thick skillet.
