Ingredients/Components

  • onion, chopped - 1 item
  • jalapeno, minced - 1 item
  • cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
  • can stewed tomatoes - 1 1/2
  • chicken broth - 4 c
  • can tomato soup - 1 item
  • cumin - 1 tsp
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • large chicken breasts, cooked and chopped - 4 item
  • lemon pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
  • Worcestershire sauce - 2 tsp
  • corn tortillas, sauteed lightly - 4 item
  • avocado, chopped - 1 item
  • Monterey Jack cheese, grated - 1 item
  • sour cream - 1 item

How to make tortilla soup:

Saute onion, jalapeno and garlic. Add all ingredients except last four and simmer for 1 hour. About 20 minutes before serving, saute tortillas and tear into bite-size pieces. Add to soup. Put avocado and cheese into individual bowls; pour soup over this. Top with a small dollop of sour cream. Serves 4 to 6 people.
