Tomato and onion salad
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1 item
- water - 1/2 c
- vinegar - 1 item
- mayonnaise - 1/4 c
- celery seed
- onions, thinly sliced - 2 item
- tomatoes, sliced - 1 item
How to make tomato and onion salad:
Place 2 cups thinly sliced onions in a shallow dish. Pour water over them and enough vinegar to cover onions. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Cover the dish and chill 3 to 4 hours. Just before serving, drain the onions and mix with mayonnaise, celery seed and salt. Serve on a bed of greens and a circle of sliced tomatoes with the onions in the center.This is a good way to take the "bite" out of too strong onions.
