  • butter, softened - 1 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • egg yolk - 1 item
  • chocolate bits - 2 c

How to make toffee bars:

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Beat butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla in a large bowl with electric mixer at high speed until moist, crumbly and mixture begins to gather around beater; stir in flour until blended. Press batter evenly in prepared pan.

Bake for 25 minutes. Remove pan from oven. Sprinkle chocolate pieces over top. Return pan to oven and continue to bake 3 to 4 minutes or until chocolate is melted. Remove pan from oven. Spread melted chocolate evenly over top with metal spatula; sprinkle top with nuts, pressing down slightly into melted chocolate.
