Ingredients/Components
- milk - 2 c
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sugar - 1/2 c
- yeast cakes - 2 item
- very warm water - 1/2 c
- egg - 1 item
- salt - 2 tsp
- flour - 8 c
How to make sweet rolls:
Scald the 2 cups of milk; pour over shortening and sugar in a bowl. Stir until shortening is melted, then take the 1/2 cup warm water; put yeast into the warm water in the cup. Stir, then add to mixture in the bowl. Then add egg (well beaten), then add flour and salt. Mix well; turn out on counter and knead 5 to 8 times. Put mixture back into bowl; let rise to double its size, then punch down and make into rolls or loaves of bread. Cover; let rise for 1 to 2 hours, then bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.Can make into cinnamon rolls also: After raised the first time, roll dough out flat to 1/4 inch thick. Spread butter on, then sugar and cinnamon. Roll up, then slice in about 1/2 inch thick pieces. Put into square 9 x 13-inch pan. Let rise 1 to 2 hours, then bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
