Spanish rice
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- cooking oil - 1 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- chili powder - 1 tsp
- can tomatoes, cut up - 1 oz
- long grain rice - 3/4 c
- chopped green pepper - 1/2 c
- shredded Cheddar cheese optional - 1/2 c
- several dashes bottled hot pepper sauce - 1 item
How to make spanish rice:
In a large skillet cook onion, green pepper and garlic in oil until tender but not brown. Stir in undrained tomatoes, rice, sugar, chili powder, pepper, hot pepper sauce and 1 cup water. Bring to boil; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes or until rice is tender and most liquid is absorbed. Sprinkle with shredded Cheddar cheese, if desired.
