Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • water - 1 item
  • oil - 1 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • clove garlic, minced - 1 item
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • can tomatoes, cut up - 1 oz
  • long grain rice - 3/4 c
  • chopped green pepper - 1/2 c
  • shredded Cheddar cheese optional - 1/2 c
  • several dashes hot pepper sauce - 1 item

How to make spanish rice:

Cook onion, green pepper and garlic in oil in a large skillet until tender, but not brown. Stir in undrained tomatoes, rice, sugar, chili powder, pepper, hot pepper sauce and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 20 to 25 minutes or until rice is tender and most of liquid is absorbed. Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese when serving. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
