Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • warm water - 1/2 c
  • dry yeast - 1 Tbsp

How to make sourdough starter:

In a large bowl (not aluminum), dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup water. Add sugar. Beat in 2 cups warm water, flour and salt with beater, mixer or whisk to make smooth batter. Cover with damp cloth and put in warm place for 2 to 3 days or until foamy and light. Stir several times a day. Starter is now ready to use or may now be stored in refrigerator in a glass jar with lid. Feed regularly. A wide mouth jar works well and I feed every time I use some, which is approximately 2 times a week.

To feed starter: Add 1 cup flour and 1 cup milk (a little sugar if desired).
