Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • sifted flour
  • cream of tartar - 2 tsp
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • butter or regular margarine - 1/2 c

How to make snickerdoodles:

Beat butter and shortening until light. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Add to mixture. Combine 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Shape dough into small balls and roll in sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in hot oven, 400°, for 8 to 10 minutes. The cookies will flatten during baking. Remove cookies and cool on racks. Makes about 6 dozen.
