Smothered steak
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- water - 1 c
- vegetable oil - 2 3
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- all-purpose flour - 1/4 c
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- bay leaf - 1 item
- medium onions, sliced - 2 item
- clove garlic, crushed - 1 item
- dried whole thyme - 1/4 tsp
- round steak
How to make smothered steak:
Pound steak to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into 1/4-inch wide strips. Combine flour, salt and pepper. Dredge steak in flour mixture. Brown in hot oil in a large heavy skillet. Add remaining ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil and cover. Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour or until steak is tender. Remove bay leaf before serving.Note: I serve smothered steak with mashed potatoes or fluffy white rice and a garden salad. It will serve about 6 people.
