Old time beef stew



Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- water - 2 c
- cold water - 1/4 c
- vegetable oil - 2 Tbsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- all-purpose flour - 2 Tbsp
- lemon juice - 1 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tsp
- soy sauce - 1 tsp
- bay leaf - 1/2 tsp
- clove garlic - 1 item
- Italian seasoning - 1 tsp
- carrots, peeled and sliced - 6 item
- medium potatoes, peeled and cubed - 6 item
- medium onion, sliced - 1 item
- dash of allspice - 1 item
- small white onions, peeled - 1 lb
- boneless chuck, cut in 1 1/2 inch cubes - 2 lb
How to make old time beef stew:
Heat oil in Dutch oven. Add beef and cook over medium heat about 20 minutes, turning often to brown evenly. Stir in next 13 ingredients. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf and garlic. Add carrots, whole onions and potatoes; cover and simmer 30 minutes longer or until vegetables are done. Gradually add 1/4 cup cold water to flour in a little mixing bowl, mixing well. Pour into stew, stirring constantly until gravy thickens. Simmer 5 minutes.
