Ingredients/Components

  • boiling water - 1/2 c
  • fresh ground pepper - 1 item
  • shredded cabbage - 4 c
  • bacon fat - 1 Tbsp
  • or 4 potatoes in 1/2 inch slices - 3 item
  • kielbasa, sliced in serving chunks or Italian sausage - 1/2 1

How to make sausage casserole:

Melt bacon fat in a large skillet. Add cabbage. Top with sliced potatoes. Lay sausage on top; sprinkle with pepper. Pour on boiling water. Cover tightly and simmer over lowest heat for 50 to 60 minutes. Add extra water if needed. Serve with brown bread. Serves 4.
