Ingredients/Components
- oil - 2 Tbsp
- salt and pepper - 1 item
- medium onions, chopped - 2 item
- bouillon cubes - 3 item
- water to cover - 1 item
- bacon - 1/2 lb
- dill pickles optional - 2 item
- slices thinly cut top round of beef - 8 item
How to make rouladen:
Lay slices of beef on table; lay on slice of bacon, chopped onion, salt, pepper and thin slice of pickle (optional). Roll up and stick with toothpick so they do not unroll. Sear rouladen in oil until browned. Cover with heated water in heavy pot or Dutch oven, add bouillon cubes. Simmer until tender, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. thicken gravy in manner you desire, (cornstarch, roux or flour and water). Serves 4 to 6.Recipe categories: Sauces, Condiments, etc., Main dish.
