Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- water - 1 oz
- coconut - 1 pkg
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 1 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- pinch of salt - 1 item
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- plain flour - 2 c
- oleo - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 1 oz
- Add food coloring, eggs and vanilla
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream the shortening and sugar. Add food coloring, eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, cocoa and salt together 3 times. Add dry ingredients with buttermilk. Alternately beat until smooth. Mix vinegar and soda; fold into batter. Do not beat. Pour into 2 greased and floured pans. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.Icing:1 c. milk pinch of salt1 c. sugar2 tsp. vanilla1/4 c. flour1 c. oleo1 pkg. coconut Mix together the milk, flour and salt; cook until thick, stirring constantly. Cool until cold (this is very important). Beat at high speed until fluffy. Add vanilla; beat. Ice cake, then garnish each layer and sides with coconut.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, American.
