- vanilla - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- shortening - 1 c
- cake flour
- large bottle red food coloring - 1 item
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make paste of food coloring and cocoa; add to creamed mixture. Add salt to buttermilk. Add alternately to creamed mixture; blend well. Add vanilla. Mix soda and vinegar together. Add into batter. Pour into 2 (9-inch) pans. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, American.
