Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- butter - 1 c
- cocoa - 1 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- cake flour - 2 c
- Angel Flake coconut - 1 c
- baking soda, dissolved in 1 Tbsp - 1 tsp
- and 2 Tbsp - 1/2 c
- Add eggs and beat well
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Sift flour, salt and cocoa 3 times and add alternately to creamed mixture with buttermilk. Add vanilla and red coloring. Last fold in soda and vinegar; do not beat. Bake in 2 (9-inch) pans at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.Frosting:1 c. milk1 c. sugar1/4 tsp. salt1/4 c. flour1 c. butter2 tsp. vanilla1 c. Angel Flake coconut Mix flour and salt with milk until blended; cook slowly until real thick. Cool thoroughly. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add to cooled mixture and beat well.
