  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • cocoa
  • butter - 3/4 c
  • sugar
  • eggs - 3 item
  • cake flour
  • salt
  • baking soda
  • buttermilk
  • vanilla
  • vinegar
  • Let stand
  • confectioners sugar
  • flour - 3 Tbsp
  • milk - 3 Tbsp
  • dash of salt - 1 item
  • Crisco - 3/4 c

How to make red velvet cake:

Mix food coloring and cocoa. Let stand. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, then coloring and cocoa mixture. Beat well.

Sift together cake flour, salt and soda. Add to buttermilk. Stir in vanilla and vinegar, but do not beat. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until it springs back.Frosting:2 egg whites1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar3 Tbsp. flour3 Tbsp. milk less than 1/2 tsp. vanilla dash of salt3/4 c. Crisco In on bowl, beat egg whites until fluffy. Add 1 1/2 cups sugar. Set aside.

In another bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients. Then add egg white mixture and beat together until fluffy.
