Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1/2 c
  • flour
  • brown sugar - 2 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • dark molasses - 1 Tbsp
  • large egg, beaten - 1 item
  • a little vanilla - 1 item
  • raisins, steamed - 3/4 c

How to make raisin crumb cake:

Mix well the flour, salt, sugar and shortening (with hands, keep 3/4 cup for top). Add raisins and nuts to the rest. Stir soda into buttermilk and add egg and molasses. Then blend in first mixture. Pour into 9-inch cake pan (well greased). Put the 3/4 cup crumbs on top and bake in a slow 325° oven for 50 minutes. (Take a double portion for larger cake.)
