  • raisins - 2 c
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • shortening - 1 c
  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • cloves optional - 1/4 tsp
  • nutmeg optional - 1/4 tsp

How to make raisin cookies:

Add boiling water to raisins and cook for 5 minutes. Cool. Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Add cooled raisins and mix thoroughly. Sift flour. Add salt, soda, baking powder, spices and chopped nuts; blend.
