  • butter or margarine - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • buttermilk - 2 Tbsp
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • packed light brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • ground cinnamon - 3/4 tsp
  • ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
  • ground allspice - 1/4 tsp
  • egg, lightly beaten - 1 item
  • golden raisins - 1/2 c
  • egg white, beaten - 1 item
  • solid pack pumpkin - 3/4 c

How to make pumpkin scones:

In large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Mix well. Using pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Stir in raisins; set aside.

In small bowl, combine egg, pumpkin and buttermilk. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients; mix well.

On lightly floured surface, pat dough into a circle 3/4-inch thick. Using a 2-inch round cutter, cut into 14 scones. Place scones on an ungreased cookie sheet. Brush tops with egg white. Bake in preheated 400° oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet; cool on wire rack. Makes 14 scones.
