Ingredients/Components
- shortening - 1/4 c
- sugar - 3/4 c
- egg - 1 item
- sifted cake flour
- baking powder
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- milk - 2/3 c
- vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- Praline Glaze - 1 item
- plus 1 tsp
- firmly packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
- butter or margarine, melted - 1/4 c
- water - 2 Tbsp
- chopped pecans - 3/4 c
How to make praline cake:
Praline Glaze:1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. all-purpose flour1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar1/4 c. butter or margarine, melted2 Tbsp. water3/4 c. chopped pecans Cream shortening and sugar; add egg, beating well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla. Pour batter into a heavily greased 8-inch round or square cake pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool slightly. Spread Praline Glaze over cake. Bake at 350° for 5 minutes. Yield: one 8-inch cake.Glaze: Combine first 4 ingredients, mixing well. Stir in chopped pecans. Yield: enough for one 8-inch cake.
