  • sugar
  • vanilla
  • sour cream - 1 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • butter - 3/4 c
  • egg yolks - 4 item
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • stiffly beaten egg whites - 4 item
  • 2 Tbsp - 1/8 c

How to make poppy seed cake:

Cream butter, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla and poppy seed. Thoroughly stir together flour, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, beating well after each addition. Fold in egg whites. Turn batter into a greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes.

To prevent overbrowning, cover with foil the last 5 to 10 minutes. Do not invert cake in pan. Cool. Remove from pan and dust with powdered sugar. Can be baked in a bread pan, but requires a longer baking time.
