Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 5 Tbsp
- egg yolks - 6 item
- cold water - 1/4 c
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- egg whites - 6 item
- dash of salt - 1 item
- Crisco - 1 c
- cream of tartar - 1 tsp
- cake flour
- lemon extract - 1 tsp
- Separate the eggs
How to make sponge cake:
Sift together flour, only 1 cup of the sugar and baking powder. Separate the eggs. Combine egg whites, salt and cream of tartar; beat until soft mounds form, then add 1/2 cup sugar, a tablespoon at a time. Beat until very stiff. Beat egg yolks; combine with water, vanilla and lemon extract. Add dry ingredients to egg yolk mixture. Fold in egg white mixture. Pour into ungreased tube pan. Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes. Cool; frost with Fluffy Icing.Fluffy Icing:1 c. sugar1 c. Crisco1 tsp. vanilla1 c. milk5 Tbsp. flour dash of salt Beat sugar and Crisco until very creamy. Mix together the milk, flour and salt; cook until thick. Cool. Add cooked mixture to sugar and Crisco as you beat in mixer until icing is very fluffy. Add vanilla. Besides being a great icing for the Sponge Cake, it is good with devil's food or yellow cake, as it is like the filling in Twinkies.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cakes, Egg.
