Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • cornstarch - 1 tsp
  • water - 3 Tbsp
  • allspice - 1/2 tsp
  • paprika - 1 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • bay leaves - 3 item
  • beef broth - 1 c
  • medium potatoes, peeled and quartered - 3 item
  • boneless beef rump roast - 3 lb
  • medium onions, peeled and quartered - 3 item
  • large carrots, peeled and cut in half - 4 item

How to make old fashioned pot roast:

Cook at 325°. Trim excess fat. Place in 4-quart Dutch oven or casserole; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add onions, broth, paprika, allspice and bay leaves. Cover; bake for 2 hours. Add carrots and potatoes. Bake 45 to 60 minutes longer, until vegetables are tender. Remove bay leaves. In small bowl combine cornstarch and water. Stir into hot liquid. Bake 15 minutes longer or until gravy is thickened. Believe it or not this recipe is very low in fat.
