Ingredients/Components

- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- brown sugar - 1 c
- coconut - 1 c
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- nuts - 1 c
- hot water
- white sugar - 1 c
- canned milk - 4 Tbsp
- butter or shortening
- oatmeal quick cook - 1 c
How to make oatmeal cake:
Topping:6 Tbsp. butter or shortening3/4 c. brown sugar4 Tbsp. canned milk1 c. coconut1 c. nuts Soak 1 cup oatmeal in 1 1/4 cups hot water and set aside. Cream together shortening and sugars. Add 2 eggs. Beat about 5 minutes. Add and mix flour, salt, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder and vanilla. Add oatmeal mixture and mix. Pour in greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes. When cake is cool, mix butter, brown sugar, milk, coconut and nuts.
