  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • flour - 5 c
  • egg - 1 item
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 2 c

How to make never fail pie crust:

Blend first 3 ingredients. Break egg into a 1 cup measuring cup; add vinegar; finish filling the cup with water. Beat mixture together and add to dry ingredients. Mix to form a soft ball. Pinch off enough for crust and roll out on a floured board. Place in pie pan. If baked crust is needed, prick bottom and sides with a fork. Bake in very hot oven (450°) until crust is golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes. If filling and crust are to be baked together, do not prick crust. Add filling and bake as directed in pie recipe.

For double crust, fit lower crust in pan; trim edge even with pie pan. Moisten the edge of the lower crust with water before adding top. It will seal in the juices better. Cut slits in top crust before laying it on top of filling. Crimp edges and bake as directed for the pie recipe you are using.
