Moravian christmas cookies
Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- brown sugar - 1/2 c
- butter - 1/4 c
- nutmeg - 1 tsp
- soda - 1 Tbsp
- boiling water - 1/8 c
- shortening - 1/4 c
- molasses - 1 c
- ginger - 1 tsp
- sifted flour
- ground cloves - 1 tsp
- mace - 1 tsp
- pinch salt - 1 item
How to make moravian christmas cookies:
Combine 1st 4 ingredients and beat until melted. Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to above mixture.Sift together flour and spices. Add to first mixture. Blend well; batter will be thick. Store in refrigerator at least 24 hours for flavors to blend.
Roll dough very thin (where you can almost see through it). Cut with cookie cutter. Place on well greased cookie sheet. Bake 5-8 minutes at 350°.
Since the cookies are very thin, be careful not to overbake.
