  • egg whites room temperature - 2 item
  • salt - 1/8 tsp
  • cream of tartar - 1/8 tsp
  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • chocolate chips - 1 c
  • crushed candy cane - 3 Tbsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c

How to make meringue cookies:

Heat oven to 250°. Beat egg whites at high speed in a small bowl until foamy. Add salt and cream of tartar. Continue beating until soft peaks form. Add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition. When meringue is stiff and white, add the rest of the ingredients. Drop by teaspoonfuls about 1 1/2-inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake 40 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool.
