Ingredients/Components

ground oatmeal
flour
butter or margarine - 3/4 c
brown sugar - 1 c
baking powder - 1 tsp
baking soda - 1 tsp
salt - 1 tsp
dates, chopped - 1 c
sugar - 3/4 c
hot water - 1 c

How to make matrimonial bars:

Mix all dry ingredients together, then blend in butter as you would a pie crust. Put half of the dough on the bottom of a cookie sheet. Bring the dates, sugar and hot water to a boil and cook until mushy. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Place over crumb mixture and add the rest of the crumbs to the top of the date mixture. Bake in a 300° preheated oven for about 1/2 hour. Cut into squares and serve warm or cold. Makes a great coffee and muncher.
