  • buttermilk - 1 c

  • powdered sugar - 2 c
  • hot water - 2 4
  • lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
  • grated lemon peel - 2 Tbsp
  • glaze recipe follows - 1 item
  • Grease and flour tube pan 10 x 4-inch
  • butter or margarine, softened 2 sticks - 1 c

How to make lemon pound cake:

Heat oven to 325°. Grease and flour tube pan (10 x 4-inch). Beat sugar and butter in a large bowl on medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Mix flour and baking soda. Beat into sugar mixture alternately with buttermilk until well blended. Stir in lemon peel and juice. Spread in pan. Bake 1 hour at 325°. Let stand and cool 20 minutes and glaze.Glaze for Lemon Pound Cake:1/3 c. butter or margarine1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel2 c. powdered sugar2 to 4 Tbsp. hot water Heat butter in 2-quart saucepan until melted. Stir in lemon peel and powdered sugar. Stir in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until thin enough to drizzle.
